ERICA MOLESWORTH // Tree Skype
A 5-minute excerpt from a day-long performance piece: filmed in the hour before sunset in California. (Single channel, High-definition video, 16:9, 1080p24)
The video “Tree Skype” is a documentation of a live video conference between a Eucalyptus in the Oakland hills and one in Sydney, Australia. I wanted viewers to start to look at trees in relation to each other, and in a shared relation with us in the world, rather than as objects peripheral to a human centeredness. I also opened up a space in which a ‘conversation’ occurred between two Eucalypti - one a ‘native’ species and the other an ‘invasive’ one - in just the kind of distance-erasing technological environment that has accelerated similar global flows of people and plants.
