Inspired by my family’s brief history in the United States I have set out to begin photographing each and every member as a way to better understand what it means to be a first generation Mexican-American. Predominantly settling in southeastern Wisconsin, my family has grown to a little more than one hundred individuals through its second generation. The images in this body of work, titled ‘de’, seek to chronicle and reimagine various narratives of how my family has become a part of this country. This small edit functions as the prelude to a larger body of work yet to be explored.
